SPDR S&P Dividend is an open-end investment management company. The Fund seeks to closely match the returns and characteristics of the S&P High Yield Dividend Aristocrats Index (the Index). The Index is designed to measure the performance of the 60 highest dividend yielding S&P Composite 1500 Index constituents that have followed a managed-dividends policy of consistently increasing dividends every year for at least 25 consecutive years. The Fund generally invests substantially all, but at least 80%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the Index. As of June 30 2015, the Fund's total assets and investment portfolio totaled $13,542,735,420 and $13,515,502,662, respectively. The SDY average annual return 10 years is shown above.

The Average Annual Return on the SDY average annual return 10 years page and across the coverage universe of our site, is a measure of the annualized return over the past ten years (or specified start date) for a given investment (up to the end of prior trading session recorded). Arguably, choosing ten years for a measurement period is on the one hand completely arbitrary, but on the other hand provides a sufficiently long window to capture long-term trends.

Thus, researching Average Annual Returns is good practice for investors — whether SDY average annual return 10 years or other benchmarks/peers — and when doing so it is also important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annualized return is more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon. Our website aims to empower investors by performing the SDY average annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
