Vanguard Mid-Cap Value ETF (the Fund) is an open-end investment management company. The Fund seeks to track the performance of a benchmark index that measures the investment return of mid-capitalization value stocks. The Fund is designed to track the performance of the MSCI US Mid Cap Value Index (the Index). The Fund attempts to replicate the target Index by investing all, or substantially all, of its assets in the stocks that make up the Index, holding each stock in approximately the same proportion as its weighting in the Index. As of Dec 31 2013, the Fund's investments portfolio was valued at $4,663,178,000. The VOE average annual return 10 years is shown above.

The Average Annual Return on the VOE average annual return 10 years page and across the coverage universe of our site, is a measure of the annualized return over the past ten years (or specified start date) for a given investment (up to the end of prior trading session recorded). Arguably, choosing ten years for a measurement period is on the one hand completely arbitrary, but on the other hand provides a sufficiently long window to capture long-term trends.

Thus, researching Average Annual Returns is good practice for investors — whether VOE average annual return 10 years or other benchmarks/peers — and when doing so it is also important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annualized return is more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon. Our website aims to empower investors by performing the VOE average annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
