CMS Energy is a holding company. Co. has several subsidiaries, including: Consumers Energy Company, an electric and gas utility that serves individuals and businesses operating in the alternative energy, automotive, chemical, food, and metal products industries, as well as a group of other industries; CMS Enterprises Company, which through its subsidiaries and equity investments, is engaged in domestic independent power production, including the development and operation of renewable generation, and the marketing of independent power production; and EnerBank USA, an industrial bank located in Utah that provides primarily unsecured, installment loans for financing home improvements. The CMS stock yearly return is shown above.

The yearly return on the CMS stock yearly return page and across the coverage universe of our site, is a measure of the annual return over the calendar year 2016 for the given stock. When performing this calculation it is important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annual return is more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon.

One way to factor dividends into the return is simply to count them as cash — we don't do that here. Instead, our website aims to empower investors by performing the CMS annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
