First Trust High Income Long/Short Fund is registered as a diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Fund's primary investment objective is to provide current income. The Fund's secondary objective is capital appreciation. The Fund invests in, under normal market conditions, a majority of its assets in a portfolio of United States and foreign (including emerging markets) high-yield corporate fixed-income securities of varying maturities that are rated below-investment grade at the time of purchase. The FSD stock yearly return is shown above.
The yearly return on the FSD stock yearly return page and across the coverage universe of our site,
is a measure of the annual return over the calendar year 2016 for the given stock.
When performing this calculation it is important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annual return is
more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon.
One way to factor dividends into the return is simply to count them as cash — we don't do
that here. Instead, our website aims to empower investors
by performing the FSD annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
