MBIA is a holding company. Co.'s primary business is to provide financial guarantee insurance to the U.S.' public finance markets through its indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary, National Public Finance Guarantee Corporation (National). Co. has three operating segments: U.S. public finance insurance, which is managed through National and provides unconditional and irrevocable guarantees of the payment of the principal of, and interest or other amounts owing on, U.S. public finance insured obligations when due; corporate, which consists of general corporate activities; and international and structured finance insurance, which insures the investment contracts written by Co. The MBI stock yearly return is shown above.
The yearly return on the MBI stock yearly return page and across the coverage universe of our site,
is a measure of the annual return over the calendar year 2018 for the given stock.
When performing this calculation it is important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annual return is
more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon.
One way to factor dividends into the return is simply to count them as cash — we don't do
that here. Instead, our website aims to empower investors
by performing the MBI annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
