Mercer International is a global forest products company. Co. has two segments: Pulp and Wood Products. In the Pulp segment, Co. is a producer of market northern bleached softwood kraft pulp, which is pulp that is sold on the open market. In addition, all of Co.'s mills generate and sell an amount of surplus green energy. Co. also produces and sells tall oil, a by-product of its production process, which is used as both a chemical additive and as a green energy source. In the Wood Products segment, Co. manufactures, sells and distributes lumber, electricity and other wood residuals at the Friesau mill which produces lumber for European, the United States and other lumber export markets. The MERC stock yearly return is shown above.
The yearly return on the MERC stock yearly return page and across the coverage universe of our site,
is a measure of the annual return over the calendar year 2018 for the given stock.
When performing this calculation it is important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annual return is
more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon.
One way to factor dividends into the return is simply to count them as cash — we don't do
that here. Instead, our website aims to empower investors
by performing the MERC annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
