Overseas Shipholding Group owns and operates a fleet of oceangoing vessels engaged in the transportation of crude oil and petroleum products in the U.S. Flag trade. Co.'s active vessel fleet, which includes U.S. Flag vessels, consists of crude oil tankers doing business in Alaska, conventional Articulated Tug Barges (ATBs), lightering ATBs, shuttle tankers, MR tankers, and non-Jones Act Medium Range (MR) tankers that participate in the U.S. Maritime Security Program. Co. also owns and operates Marshall Islands flagged MR tankers that trade internationally. Under the Jones Act, shipping between U.S. ports is reserved for U.S. Flag vessels that satisfy Jones Act requirements. The OSG stock yearly return is shown above.
The yearly return on the OSG stock yearly return page and across the coverage universe of our site,
is a measure of the annual return over the calendar year 2016 for the given stock.
When performing this calculation it is important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annual return is
more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon.
One way to factor dividends into the return is simply to count them as cash — we don't do
that here. Instead, our website aims to empower investors
by performing the OSG annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
