John Hancock Premium Dividend Fund is a closed-end management investment company. The Fund's investment objective is to provide high current income, consistent with modest growth of capital. The Fund pursues its objective by investing in a portfolio comprised primarily of dividend paying preferred securities and common equity securities. Under normal circumstances, the Fund will invest at least 80% of its assets in dividend paying securities. The PDT stock yearly return is shown above.
The yearly return on the PDT stock yearly return page and across the coverage universe of our site,
is a measure of the annual return over the calendar year 2021 for the given stock.
When performing this calculation it is important to factor in dividends, because a financial instrument's annual return is
more than just the change in price if that instrument pays a dividend or coupon.
One way to factor dividends into the return is simply to count them as cash — we don't do
that here. Instead, our website aims to empower investors
by performing the PDT annual return calculation with any dividends reinvested as applicable (on ex-dates).
